Week 30! Unbelievable!

We continued our regular routine (see numerous past posts of Daily Work) for most of our subjects this week.  Some review and memory work has begun as we start to wind down the year.  We've been working on some Bible related memory work, as well as states and their capitals this week.  We continue to review Latin vocabulary and will begin a total book review of Greek next week.  We are also doing some review of Spanish grammar work, and continue our vocabulary book review.

This week in chemistry, my son completed a couple of chapters in Tiner and we prepared for his 3 hour lab today.  Here are the labs he has completed from the Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments (5 out of 8 weeks completed):

Safety Intro
Separating Mixtures
Differential Solubility: Separate Sand and Salt
Solvent Extraction

Purify Copper Sulfate (and then also produce copper carbonate) - both used for later labs
(These are absolutely beautiful, too, by the way!)

Solubility and Solutions
Make up a Molar Solution of Copper Sulfate (used in later labs)
Make up a Molar Solution of Hydrochloric Acid
Make a Mass to Volume % Solution of Phenolphthalein

Acid-Base Chemistry
Determine the Effect of Concentration on pH
Red Cabbage as a pH Indicator

Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry
Reactivity of Metals
Observe the Composition Reaction of Iron (II) Sulfide
Observe a Single Displacement Reaction
He got to play around with some reactivity, too, such as turning a penny silver, then gold; coating a nail with brass, etc.....

In his last three labs, he'll be working with gas chemistry, then colloids and suspensions.

This week in history and literature, in addition to continuing with books we'd already started, we were reading about various South American uprisings and Simon Bolivar.  Here are some of the books we  read from this week:

We read Welcome to Venezuela, Yumi Ng; Peru, the Land, Bobbie Kalman; Discovering Cultures: Peru, Sarah De Capua; and Simon Bolivar, South American Liberator, Carol Greene.





We read stories from these countries from The Emerald Lizard, Fifteen Latin American Tales to Tell, Pleasant DeSpain.




Obviously, this was a big geography week, LOL.....
