Exploration of the New World

Our next area of study has involved exploration and settlement of the new world.  My student listened to chapter 40.

I asked him to write a little report for me about Elizabeth.  What made her such a famous monarch?  How was she different from other monarchs of her time?  How did she succeed in making England rich and famous?  What were some of her greatest mistakes?  her greatest challenges?

In looking at Roanoke and its aftermath, you might like to read some from this page about peoples known as Melungeons and how that grouping came about....

We have, of course, been working through the maps that accompany SOTW (adding to them), as well as some of the other activities (he is not interested in coloring).  We are also working on getting his timeline started for this year!  I will really, REALLY try, this year, to get some pics of that!
